Captivating Route: Gran Fondo Moab will embark on an exhilarating journey from Lions Park, taking riders north following the tranquil and picturesque pathway alongside highway 191 on our way to the scenic highway 313. After soaking in the majestic scenery, riders will return, enjoying a mostly downhill cruise, to Lions Park to cross the triumphant finish line. 

Gorgeous Views: Once we ascend out of town, prepare to be captivated by awe-inspiring vistas as you turn west onto highway 313. This stunning climb will guide you past iconic landmarks such as Merrimac and Monitor Buttes, Big Mesa, Plateau Viewpoint, and the Knoll, offering unforgettable views of Moab's breathtaking landscape.

Friday, May 3rd

4:00 - 7:00 PM: Race Packet Pick Up - Field Station Moab - 889 North Main Street, Moab.

Saturday, May 4th

7:00am – 7:30am: Package Pick Up - Lions Park
7:45 AM: Call to Start - Lions Park
8:00 AM: Gran Fondo Start
11:00 AM - 2:00 PM: Finish and Lunch at Lions Park
1:30 PM: Awards at Lions Park
2:00 PM: Gran Fondo Course Closes

Limited parking is available at Lions Park, we encourage you to ride to the park from downtown utilizing 500 West. If you are staying at Field Station Moab you may also leave your vehicle there - it is close to the start line. This is a mandatory start time to receive timing and support. Anyone who starts before or after 8am will not be supported or get a time.

Prizing

Once we turn on to highway 313, we are encouraging you to ride and race to the high point of the route at the Deadhorse and Canyonlands Junction. The top five men and woman will be timed to the KOM/QOM at this point.

Course Notes

ALL riders will receive a bike number and wristband. You must wear your event wristband to get access to the course, aid stations, and lunch.

This is a TIMED event, riders WILL NOT be able to enter HWY 128 before the event start time. Please warm up in and around town.

The route will be on open roads with two-way motorized traffic. All cyclists’ must obey traffic laws at all times. There will be a STRICT yellow-center line rule, even on the parts of the course that have no painted center line. The road in the mountains is very narrow, with blind corners where riders can encounter oncoming motor vehicles so always stay as far right as possible. Please ride with caution.

Law enforcement will be patrolling the course.

Gran Fondo Moab Rules

1. THIS IS NOT A RACE: We are encouraging you to challenge yourself to the top of highway 313 at at the Deadhorse and Canyonlands Junction and then to ride carefully back down to the finish. The top five riders to the top will be awarded for men and women for their efforts. Your SAFETY is your responsibility. We will only time the TOP 5 men and women for the KOM/QOM at at the Deadhorse and Canyonlands Junction. All riders will get a finish time for the complete ride back to Lion’s Park.

2. Helmets are Mandatory: Cyclists must have a helmet on at ALL times on the Gran Fondo Moab course.

3. Obey ALL traffic laws: All cyclists are responsible for obeying all traffic laws: we have a rolling closure from town to the turn off on highway 313, after that you are on OPEN roads. Ride single file whenever possible. Any cyclist who is deemed to be riding unsafely, discourteously or recklessly will be pulled from the event and possibly ticketed by local law enforcement.

4. NO MUSIC, Headphones or music devices are to be worn after event start or at anytime on the Gran Fondo Moab course.

5. NO personal support vehicles allowed on the course. Supports is allowed at the start and finish of the event. The less cars on the route the safer the event will be. NO WATER BOTTLE HAND-OFFS at the Aid Stations. You need to stop and get water on your own.

6. DISPLAY your event number and wrist band. All registered riders that want a result and time must wear there race number as instructed at packet pick up. Any rider who fails to do this properly will not get an official time or finish. If you do not have your wrist band on you will not be allowed access at the aid stations and will not get lunch at the FINISH. No exceptions.

7. No unregistered riders. Unregistered riders will not be allowed to start with the MASS start or allowed to be in the rolling closure. Unregistered riders will NOT be allowed to get water or food at any aid stations.

8. USE the Bathrooms PLEASE: Do not go to the bathroom anywhere on course except public bathrooms or Porta Potties. It only takes one individual to be seen peeing on the side of the road to ruin the event! We will have Porta Potties at 2 of the aid stations. There will also be bathrooms at the finish at Lion’s Park

9. BE RESPECTFUL to other riders and HAVE FUN!

DOWNHILL CAUTION

Be extremely careful on the downhills when returning along highway 313. There are two parts of this descent with blind corners, and we must caution riders to stay in the shoulder for safety of traffic coming the opposite direction. Ride with CAUTION!

FAQ’s

Which direction is the course running?
The course will be an out and back starting from Lions Park and heading north along the pathway adjacent to highway 191 and then heading west on highway 313. For more info, please go to the course section at the bottom of this page.

What support is offered?
While this is a supported ride we encourage you to start with two FULL water bottles and the energy food you would normally carry for a big ride. We will have aid stations with food, water and sports drinks along the route. There will also be mobile tech support for minor bike help but mainly for flats along the route.

Are there time limits on the Course?
Yes, the course is OPEN from 8am- 2pm
. Riders leaving before 8am will be disqualified. If you do not make it to the Finish Line before 2 PM your time will be listed as 6+ Hours. All Sag Wagon and Police support will still be on the course after 2 pm to help any riders.

What is the refund policy?
All entry fees are non transferable and are NON REFUNDABLE. Sorry no exceptions.

Are there AWARDS?
Yes, there will be awards for the top five men and female riders to the top of the climb at the Deadhorse and Canyonlands Junction.

Cancellation/Refund Policy:

There are no refunds, roll-overs, or credit issued by Transrockies US LP if you cancel your entry. Transfers of entry to another participant for the Moab Fondo Fest event in 2024 may be permitted at the discretion of TransRockies US LP for an admin fee of $25.

Additional registration protection can be purchased through FanShield, which is a refund protection insurance for attendees. For a small premium, if you are unable to attend due to any of FanShield’s covered reasons, you have the option to file a refund request through them. TransRockies Inc reserves the right to cancel any TransRockies Race Series event, cancel race stages or change the route on short notice due to fire bans/fire closures, air quality, weather conditions, wildlife or safety concerns, pandemic, unforeseen construction, Acts of God or other such reasons with no reimbursement to the participant.

In the case of event cancellation by TransRockies US LP, no refunds will be available. All entries will be transferred to the next available date that the event is able to operate.

Gran Fondo Moab will embark on an exhilarating ride from Lions Park, the same cozy and welcoming start location it has in previous years.

As riders set out, we'll head north from Lions Park, following the quiet and scenic pathway alongside highway 191. With a controlled pace on the pathway, safety and convenience can be prioritized for all participants.

After the climb out of town, prepare to be enthralled by awe-inspiring vistas as you turn west onto highway 313. This beautiful  climb will lead you past iconic landmarks including Merrimac and Monitor Buttes, Big Mesa, Plateau Viewpoint, and the Knoll, offering unforgettable views of Moab's stunning landscape.

After taking in the breathtaking scenery, riders will make their way back, enjoying a mostly downhill cruise, to Lions Park to cross the triumphant finish line.

But the adventure doesn't end there! Post-ride celebrations await at Lions Park, where cyclists can indulge in cold refreshments and a delicious meal. Share stories, relive the highlights of your ride, and bask in the camaraderie of fellow cyclists as you celebrate your achievements together.
