In the case of extreme weather conditions (wind, snow, rain, hail, etc), race management may be forced to make 'ad hoc' additions to this list.

Mountain Bike Mandatory Equipment List

• Trail-worthy mountain bike
• ANSI approved bicycling helmet
• 1 spare tube (per racer)
• 1 tire pump (per team)
• 1 set of bike tools (per team) size 4 ,5, 6, Allen keys, tire levers & chain tool
• Drinking water

Recommended Clothing

• Full length pants or tights
• Dry waterproof or water resistant jacket
• Gloves (we suggest something waterproof and full finger)
• Bring a toque (knit hat) that can be worn under a cycling helmet in cold weather
• GORE-TEX is good for wind and rain
• Fleece (stays warm when wet, and dries quickly)
• Consider a waterproof hat to protect you from the sun or rain

Other Recommended Equipment

• Lighting (flashlight or head lamp)
• Extra battery for your light
• Small first aid kit, one per team
           a. 2 triangular bandages
           b. 2 tensor bandages
           c. 4 first-aid dressings sterile package 10cm X 10cm
           d. 1 roll white medical tape
           e. 1 set band-aids, knuckle bandages preferred, various sizes helpful
           f. 1 silver rescue blanket
           g. 1 CPR instruction sheet
           h. Savlon soap
           i. Antibiotic cream
           j. Your favorite buttocks cream !!
• Matches, or other means to start a fire
• Whistle
• Knife with fixed or locked blade
• Bike computer
• Bear spray
• Duct tape
• Sunscreen
• Bug spray
• Toilet paper
• Plastic zip-lock bags to carry everything out (yes, including solid human waste)
• Your mountain bike may have to pass an inspection at the start of the race – have a sports shop or professional inspect to avoid unpleasant surprises.
• Bear bells mounted on your bikes won’t keep the bears away but may help warn hikers, horse riders and other trail users of your presence
• Bear horn
• Sleeping bag and mat
• GPS and altimeter (one per team)

DO NOT DRINK WATER DIRECTLY OUT OF A STREAM OR STANDING WATER!!!!!
