2008 GORE-TEX™ TransRockies Run Dates and Route Set

For Immediate Release:

January 17th, 2008

In its first year, the GORE-TEX™ TransRockies Run defined a new standard in epic running adventure in North America. The 110 inaugural competitors ran for five days through the Colorado Rockies from the start at Beaver Creek Resort to the finish line in Aspen. In the process the runners, who competed as teams of two for a prize purse of $20,000, overcame snow, high mountain passes and 110 miles of epic running to reach the first-ever TransRockies Run finish line.

After a great first year, which received amazing feedback from competitors, media and host communities, the TransRockies Team organizers set out to make the event even more epic in 2008. So far, it’s mission accomplished with a six-stage route instead of five, more distance and elevation and more rugged Rocky Mountain singletrack than before. The 2008 edition of the GORE-TEX™ TransRockies Run is scheduled to start on Monday, August 25th in Buena Vista, Colorado and will finish on Saturday, August 30th in beautiful Beaver Creek Resort.

As is customary with events like this, final routing is subject to US Forest Service approval, and once this process of consultation and diligence is complete, stage stopover locations will be announced with final mile-by-mile routing being revealed at the opening of race sign-on.

“We’re really excited to be able to announce our 2008 dates and routing,” says Event Director Aaron McConnell. “This new northerly routing will not only allow us to return to our original planned six-day itinerary, but it will also allow us to offer our runners a more challenging, more scenic route.”

One thing that is certain is more beautiful and rugged Rocky Mountain singletrack to test the runners’ legs and lungs. In particular, the route will include even more of the majestic Continental Divide Trail. This magnificent high-altitude route along the spine of North America will celebrate its 30th Anniversary in 2008 with a series of events including the 2008 GORE-TEX™ TransRockies Run.

Registration for the 2008 GORE-TEX™ TransRockies Run will open on February 1st and demand is expected to be very strong thanks to rave reviews from the 110 brave souls who took on this challenge of a lifetime in 2007.
